Change/Compare/Concern 地道用法

Change

一般人可以毫不困难地说I've changed my mind或She decided to change her daughter's first name, 这时他们很清楚这里change是“改变”、“变更”。但为什么说“换件新上衣”或“换间大点的教室”时经常会出现change a newcoat 和change a bigger classroom呢？很显然是受了本族语的影响，忘了change是“换去”，不是“换来”。所以“换件新上衣”该是：change the old coat for a new one 或change into a new coat. 而“换间大教室”是change the classroom for a bigger one. 泛指“换车”是change buses/ trains等，如：

Are we supposed to change buses at the zoo?

具体换乘某一路车，可以这么说：

We will get off at the market to change to Bus No.1.

Compare

由于受到本族语的干扰，使用动词compare时出现的错误也有普遍性。中文是“如果这本小说和我所看过的小说相比，它不值一读”，请问你们是怎么翻译的？你们当中是不是有人把它译成If this novel compares with the novels I've read it's not worth reading, 或者是Comparing with the novels I've read, this novel isn't worth reading. 如果是这样的话，那就错了我们说“相比”时不是this novel 自己和the novels I've read比较，而是人拿它们做比较，这一点首先要明确。因此，这句话可以是If/ When you compare this novel with the novels I've read, you will find that it is not worth reading. 如果“拿……和……做比较”的人是谁不清楚，或者没有必要提到他，那么另一种形式就会是If/ When this worth reading. 如果把可以省略的部分省略掉，就成了Compared with the novels I've read, this novel isn't worth reading. 所以，想表达“和……相比”，就用compared with. 这是从刚才的剖析一步一步得出的结论。现代英语中compared to 除表示“比做”外，也可表示“和……相比”。下面请看几个例如：

Compared with people of her age, she is indeed lucky. (和同龄人相比，她确实走运)

We found he had a sense of humour compared with other guest professor.（和别的客座教授相比，他有幽默感。）

Compared with the dim, damp basement we lived in, our new flat is paradise. （和以前住的又暗又湿的地下室比，我们新迁的公寓是天堂。）

Concern

Concern 是个常用词，可用做及物动词。He concerns me 这句话你们怎么理解？如果你把它译为“他关心我”，那你就犯了从中文概念出发的错误了。这句话并不表示“他关心我”，倒有点“我关心他”的意思。因为concern在这里表示“使……担心”，“使……关心”，譬如：The little girls' failing health concerned her parents. （这小女孩健康恶化令其父母担忧。）

此外，concern有直接宾语时，有时表示“与……有关”或“关系到”的意思。譬如：

The decision concerns your future. (那决定关系到你的前途。)又如：

To whom it may concern (致有关人士)，也就是“这封信是给任何有关系的人看的”。这句话通常用在不指明或不清楚收集人姓名的信里，用来代替像Dear sir/ sirs这样用在书信开头的称呼语。
